Gratz Industries was commissioned by New York based design and media consultants C& G Partners along with the branding division of the Bank of America to design and fabricate a large scale stainless steel sculptural version of the banks logo. The “Flagscape” was designed and engineered by Gratz Industries for the lobby of the Bank of America building at One Bryant Park at the corner of 42nd Street and Avenue of the Americas.
The 15 foot wide by 12 foot high “Flagscape” is suspended from the ceiling of the lobby by practically invisible 3/16” diameter stainless steel cables and appears to hover over the entry below.
The surface of the sculpture was glass bead blasted to provide a soft glimmering finish which make the “Flagscape” appear light and delicate despite the actual weight which approaches 2000 pounds .The project was supervised by general contractors Tischman Construction and the architects of record were Cook + Fox
Gratz Industries provided the signed and sealed engineering drawings required and worked closely with Tri Pyramid Structures, and Stutzki Engineering, in the design and development of the structure. The stainless steel elements are actually divided by a large piece of laminated lo-iron glass that bears the weight of the sculpture and intensive computer modeling was required to achieve the dynamic and elegant appearance and maintain the structural integrity of the sculpture ..
Gratz Industries has been asked by The Bank of America branding team to develop and additional “Flagscape” sculpture for its corporate headquarters being built in Charlotte North Carolina in 2009.
