Gratz Industries created the brass disc ceiling for the new Museum of Arts & Design at Columbus Circle in New York. The ceiling was actually a re-creation of the original ceiling that hung in the auditorium and had been designed by the building’s architect Edward Durrell Stone .
Gratz created proto types and developed the canopied ceiling piecing together over 25,000 brass discs in arcs that hang over the auditorium. The brass disc ceiling provides a visual and acoustical function as the backlit “gold” discs are a featured element in the auditorium.
Gratz worked closely with American Architectural Inc and the building architects Allied Works and the general contractor Sciame Construction in the development, fabrication and installation of this stunning architectural ceiling.
